John Brookes presented with CAPO Belco Arts Inclusion Award with grant and gallery space for future projects
John Brookes was presented with the CAPO (Capital Arts Patrons Organisation) Belco Inclusion Award last Thursday - this comes with a Grant and a guaranteed solo exhibition in 2023 at the Gallery.
John Brookes said: "If you're wondering why I'm grinning like a lunatic, I was making sure I got my money's worth out of my new veneers.
This Award will go a long way towards making Canberry Communications and sustainable initiative and develop its capacity of exploring the boundaries of disability in arts."
John Brookes will use the Grant towards a satirical exhibition which will challenge media disability portrayals, matching modern research with Propaganda poster designs used in 1930s to 1950s.
Just heard I've been nominated for the Canberra Choice awards for Volunteering 2022, so here's a VOTE FOR ME email!!
No bribes available but you'll have my lifelong gratitude. Voting page is here:
(dont forget to put email at top of poll page else vote wont count) Thank you!
The Volunteering Awards are the premier recognition event for volunteers in the Canberra region celebrating all volunteers and acknowledging the ongoing contribution of volunteers to the Canberra community.
The Canberra’s Choice Award offers the opportunity for members of the public to vote on all the persons and teams that were nominated as part of the 2022 Volunteering Awards for this special award.
You can only select one person/team to vote for at a time.
Knackered, pain in every joint and out of breath - and that just BEFORE the race
Seriously though, never been so glad to see the finish line but that's not what it was all about... I'm so delighted to note that - with my fantastic supporters and sponsors - $515 has been raised which will go towards future projects to empower people with disabilities thru arts - am already speaking to venues, artists and possible grant givers - so watch this space!
I really thank you for raising funds for a cause to close to many people's heart.
(plus I got my finish medal )
